In September 2017, Carlton Primary, Heidelberg Primary, and Princess Hill Primary were the first schools in the northern corridor to have participated in our new and exciting three-week Community Education Program, “Leading with the Blues”.

Leading with the Blues targets grades five and six students and has been developed and facilitated by Brianna Davey, Carlton Football Club 2017 AFLW vice-captain and inaugural best and fairest winner.

“I’m really excited to share my knowledge and experience as a leader through the Leading with the Blues program’” says Davey. “I think leadership is a really important element for students to understand at a young age. We want to promote that, it’s about your positive capabilities and characteristics, rather than an official title to be a leader”.

Leading with the Blues aims to motivate students to learn how to develop leadership skill sets, which assists in building resilience and setting goals, through a program using both on field football accomplishments and classroom activities.

The community reached education program of 237 students across the three primary schools, investing 73 hours in the community.

“Our students enjoyed the program as it helps them to understand that leaders can be everyday people and that they have the capacity to be leaders in their own school community, with big or small actions.”
